Laparoscopic Surgery
What is laparoscopic surgery?
Laparoscopic surgery is a type of keyhole surgery. An instrument called a laparoscope is inserted into the pelvis to examine your organs. Surgery can also be performed with minimal recovery time.
You may require laparoscopic surgery for:
Assessment and/or treatment of endometriosis
Assessment of infertility
Removal of cysts or tumours
Removal of fibroids
Removal of tubes or ovaries
Hysterectomy
Benefits of laparoscopic surgery
Laparoscopic surgery is minimally invasive, which means the operation is done through small incisions on your abdomen. You’re able to get on with your life shortly after.
Benefits:
Minimally invasive
Shorter hospital stay
Quicker recovery
Less pain
Smaller scars
Laparoscopic surgery with your gynaecologist
Do all gynaecologists perform laparoscopic surgery? Not all Gynaecologists are comfortable performing laparoscopic surgery.
Gynaecologists who are interested in performing laparoscopic operations for complex pelvic pathology usually undergo specific training to develop this advanced skill set.
I have completed an AGES Advanced Laparoscopic Fellowship, and am pleased to offer minimally invasive surgery for women who require complex gynaecological operations.
