Endometriosis
Suffering with endometriosis? See a specialist in Perth.
More than 11% (830,000) of women in Australia suffer from endometriosis at some point in their lives. As an endometriosis specialist in Perth, many of my patients have some form of the condition. It can be debilitating, causing mild to severe pain in the women who suffer from it, as well as fertility issues.
Endometriosis is defined as the presence of endometrial-like tissue outside of the uterus. It is a chronic inflammatory condition that can affect the reproductive organs.
Endometriosis symptoms
The condition varies in severity. Some people who live with endometriosis experience mild symptoms and can live a normal life. But for others, endometriosis is extremely painful causing many health issues, including infertility. This is why you may need an endometriosis specialist to help you through it.
Symptoms:
Painful periods
Pain during urination and bowel movements
Pain in lower abdomen
Pain in lower back
Fatigue
Nausea

Endometriosis diagnosis
Endometriosis can be diagnosed by performing an ultrasound or laparoscopy – a telescopic tube (a laparoscope) is inserted into the stomach via the belly button to see if there is endometrial tissue within the pelvic region.
Not all cases of endometriosis require a laparoscopy. As your Perth endometriosis specialist, I will assess your symptoms to arrive at a diagnosis and individualised treatment plan.
Endometriosis treatment
Lifestyle Changes
Like many disorders, endometriosis symptoms may be eased through lifestyle changes such as exercise, quality sleep and a balanced diet. Being as healthy as you can be improves your overall quality of life and has been shown to reduce pain.
Medical Treatment
Hormonal pills are often prescribed for endometriosis, to reduce symptoms by skipping periods. Obviously there are side effects for medications and you can weigh up these factors with your gynaecologist and endometriosis doctor.
Surgical Treatment
As well as diagnosing endometriosis and revealing severity, laparoscopies are used to remove endometriosis lesions and restore normal anatomy in the region.
